I'm sure acceptability may vary depending on local building/safety codes, but has anyone had a dealings with "wireless" smoke detectors. (not just battery..but radio freq. tied to a "central station").
Are they acceptable is your jurisdiction ??

Yeah we have installed them, not to central station though ,only so they are interconnected.NYS requires smoke alarms to be installed whenever a permit is pulled ,even a plumbing permit to replace a water heater.some ahjs want the wireless because you dont have to interconnect if you cant fish wires.Dwellings only.

I just don't like the thought of a screaming electronic device, I'm just getting old and cranky. Maybe its just the fact that I know somethings terminated.

I understand the premise of, and application ease of the OP but hey, lead walled houses don't sound that bad now a days...

There's three wireless signals within my house and I'm hard wired ! Go Figure! Or should that be, "Scotty, I need shields, now"

There was another thread on these not too long ago, but I can't find it.

Gawd I miss my memory!

i believe it was discussed in one of Marc's threads about finding a replacement for a very old smoke detector. maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I installed these in my aunts and uncles new addition to there home and added the wireless ones throughout the house. Oh boy do they all go off at once. The inspector was impressed.
