wires on breaker

how many branch circuit wires can be terminated on 1 breaker and where do i find it in the nec?

Here is a code reference for your answer.
The device also needs to be "listed" for the purpose.

NEC 2002 110.14 Electrical Connections.
(A) Terminals.
Terminals for more than one conductor and terminals used to connect aluminum shall be so identified.

Also 110.3(B) equipment shall be installed and used according to its listing instructions. Look at the CB, on the side or end it will tell you the size, number and torque for allowed conductors.
Most CB's allow two conductors per terminal for the smaller sizes CB's. You can always come off the CB and then use a splice several other conductors. There is a limit on the number of splices and conductors, but its 75% and 40%, which is hard to exceed.
