I am planning for the installation of a new raised floor in an office. I am not sure what I need for a wireway or duct under the raised floor. (The wireway will feed FMC whips with receptacles on the ends). Does the wireway have to be completely enclosed? Can someone reccomend a brand and part number?

Right now I am planning to use a 6 x 3.5" Square D "Wall duct" made for xray machines. I have also considered Square D's "Trench Duct", but it seems like it is made to be installed flush in concrete.

Any advice would be appreciated.

A little more information might help. What is the primary purpose of the raised floor? Is it a computer room application or general office? Will the floor cavity be used for supply or return air? What is the approximate depth of the raised floor?

Re: Wireway or duct for under raised floor

It is a general office. The floor won't be either a supply or return for air. The raised floor is to provide power and Cat 5 cables to cubicles. It also provides some flexibility if the cubicles are rearranged.

I only have 7" to the top of the floor, and I think the floor panels are 1.25" thick. That leaves 5.75" from the existing floor to the bottom of the raised floor. With a 3.5" duct, that only leaves 2.25" of space to get the covers off. (There are stringers between the raised floor posts that are not easily removable).

Anyone have any suggestions?

If someone offered to make a wire tray by bending sheet metal, would that comply with the code? Or would 376.120 prohibit this?

Can the type of duct made to be installed flush with a concrete floor be laid on top of a concrete floor?
