Hello,
I have a project I’m trying to get my head around.

I have a hot tub coming in a few weeks and need to get a box wired up.
I have a couple issues in need of a work around.

The main (200A) panel is in the finished half of the basement at the opposite end of the house from the install location and it is full.

There is a sub panel near the install location, in the unfinished part of the basement, that is feed by double pole 40A circuit from the main panel and what looks like 8 gauge (black/twisted 4 wire cable) This panel feeds the (2 X 220V) pool pumps and has 1 double pole 20A 220v beaker installed for that purpose.
Pump ”A” is single speed rated at 6.4/12.8A (hard start), pump “B” is variable speed rated at 0.4/10.0A (soft start)

There is also an unused 30A circuit for an electric dryer (we have gas) that is accessible from the unfinished basement area.

The hot tub requires a 30/20 split 220V supply, the box I was given has double pole 30A and 20A breakers included.

I’m guessing the 8 gauge cable is not sufficient to supply enough amperage for both systems as they will be running together part of the year.

My question is, would it be feasible to extend the 10/3 from the 30A dryer circuit over to the pool sub panel and match phase of the existing 40A circuit? Or, could I run the 30A dryer circuit directly into the hot tub box and pull 20A from the pool sub panel?

I’m certainly open to other suggestions.

Thanks,
Earl
