I have a Series 1510 centrifugal pump, 20 hp. I am hooking it up 3 phase @ 208v. On the motor it has 2 wiring diagrams. I have never seen this before. It has 2 ways for high voltage too. Here are my connections for 208v.

L1-7 L2-8 L3-9 6-12 4-10 5-11

L1-12-6-7
L2-10-4-8
L3-11-5-9
The bottom way is the way they said to hook it up.

Re: wiring a motor

There is normally only one connection for each voltage on a standard dual-voltage motor.

Couple of questions-
If 208 is the lower voltage, what is the other (high) voltage?

Is it a two-speed motor?

Is it a North American built motor?

Re: wiring a motor

The only time I have seen these motor lead numbers have been on a "dual voltage wye-connected start delta-connected run", except you are missing lead numbers 1, 2, and 3. These motors are used often in HVAC applications

The two low voltage connections would be:

Wye (start)
L1->1,7
L2->2,8
L3->3,9
Join->4&5&6, 10&11&12

Delta (run)
L1->1,6,7,12
L2->2,4,8,10
L3->3,5,9,11

This is just a guess, though. However if this is a wye-delta motor you need to confirm it is acceptable to start the system using the "delta" connection.

The motor you have is a Star start Delta run. The first set of connections is low voltage start. The bottom set is for Delta run.

If you are going to be starting under a load you would use a relay to switch from start to run after a set time. If I was doing it I would wire it for run and watch the amps and see if the motor can start with out problems wired in the run position.

I have a picture of the connection diagram. I would post if I could figure out how. I can email it to you if you would like.

Re: wiring a motor

So you are saying if you have a heavy load you should start it on the wye connection then switch it over to the delta run. right? thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have the diagram.
