Can UF-B or NMC cable be installed horizontally (through mortar joints) in a residential concrete or adobe wall?

See 334.10(C). Where do you get NM-C?

Basically, so long as the cables aren't embedded and intimately in contact with the mortar, you can.

Are you talking about penetrating brick for the purpose of sending interior wiring outside? Use a little chunk of carflex to break contact, it usually works well. :)

We offer lentil sleeves prior to the pour.This makes for a clean job where the GC says no pipe or carflex in the garage a 3/4 pvc in the top 2 cells and on rough there is a sleeve to go through the top blocks.

George try 334.10(B)(3) :D


B) Type NMC. Type NMC cable shall be permitted as follows:
(1) For both exposed and concealed work in dry, moist, damp, or corrosive locations, except as prohibited in 334.10(3)
(2) In outside and inside walls of masonry block or tile
(3) In a shallow chase in masonry, concrete, or adobe protected against nails or screws by a steel plate at least 1.59 mm ( in.) thick and covered with plaster, adobe, or similar finish

NMC is allow UF is not, Non of them is allowed Embedded in poured cement, concrete, or aggregate.

This is because if the concrete cracks it can break the cable.

for some reason i could not copy the link from SOUTHWIRE, however, in the product listing there is a statement that type UF-B may be used where Art 336 calls for NM-C
