I was at a plant helping with some machinery this morning and noticed something that grabbed my eye. The facilities people there were running wiring for a new machine. I noticed that they had their 208 3ph as well as some 110v running through open troughs that are only about 12' off of the ground. It doesn't mean anything to me, but my curiosity is killing me. Doesn't the high voltage have to be enclosed, even if in a trough and you can run low voltage or signal in an open trough? They are just using the THHN wire in it as well. One of the troughs looks like utility room shelving or freezer racks and the other is actually an open wire trough. I'm just really curious what the code is on that.
