Hi, I am in the middle of a basement remodel and was thinking of wiring it for a home theater for down the road. The idea is to hang a plasma t.v. over the fireplace and have all the other component in a hidden location. The power and cable lines will be in the ceiling above the t.v.
My problem is the video & audio signal(rca)from the t.v. SO here are my questions.

1.Do i need a special grade of speaker wire for in-wall use.
2.Do they make a feed thru rca type plate
3.Are the cables(rca) you buy at the local big box stores rated for in wall use.
4.Can anyone recommend a good in wall/ceiling speaker that is fairly in-expensive.

Thanks for your all your help in advance.

Some of the newer Flat tv's use a hybrid cable between the TV and a reciver that comes with the set. This cable has about 25 conductors in it and has a large 25 pin plug on the end of it. But if you can just run Line video and audio then just run RG-59U for each line and just put RCA jack's on the ends. I just did one that had that 25 pin cable and it was a pain to get it in and hide it. It did say class 2 wiring as it has CL2 on it.

why dont you run it in pvc, in the walls, like 1 1/2 inch conduit, then you can pull whatever you need into it later

Holy 1 1/2!!! I'd go with 1/2 or 3/4, dedicated runs to the five or six speaker points in the room. Smurf tube might be an easier option yet.

If you're pre-wiring, I'd forget about putting in actual speakers, I'd put bracket boxes centered between framing members, so that when a speaker is cut in some day, it's easier (for him or you) to cut in. Then he can purchase his personal preference and not "the cheapest" thing you can squeeze into the bid. (No offense intended. I'd end up buying the cheapest speaker, myself!) :)

You've got a combination of prewiring and spec's, so it's trickier for you to do, and harder for us to advise. :D

1/2" or 3/4 pvc will be too small. You need to go larger because the interconnect between the tv and the control box for it is going to be either component video which will be three cables for video and two for audio, DVI which will be one video cable with pre made ends that are huge plus two audio cables, Or HDMI which incorporates audio/video into one cable that will have a smaller than DVI connection but still bigger than 1/2 or 3/4 will allow.

Honestly, listen to Scott over me, he has more experience on this. But I'll leave my original post as it stands. :)

The one I did had a 25 pin connector simular to a com port on a computer  . And you will never get that thing through even a 1?" Might go through a 1?" but it would be close. Never seen one before as most have the DVI or HDMI cables.
