We penetrated the bottom of the RTU thru a factory knock out in to a common area. Wire is free air to the units GFCI outlet and thru a metal panel (with a factory installed wire protective grommet) into the disconnect lugs.

GC states " this in an unacceptable install".

Have we been doing it wrong all these years?

Any code that clarifies the enclosed space of the RTU we are in?

Any back up here would be greatly appreciated.!

Tried to attach a picture but the file is to large.

What does the GC consider "acceptable"? Is this in the contract somewhere?

A picture would be real helpful. You can make the picture lower resolution and post it.

Are the wires concealed within the RTU or exposed? I'm assuming concealed. Seems like a typical install based on how you described the work, if how I read it is how you did it.

How does the GC want you to wire it?

Pete, I am going to ask what he know they as he got is boss involved what their definition is. Pretty sure not contractual. As instructed I lowered the resolution and the picture is attached.

Rock, concealed inside. GC wants it to be in flexible conduit.

We have never installed conduit inside a unit.

Thank you both for replying and look forward to the responses.

Your installation is fine. Isn't that factory wiring in the top of the photo? That's not in conduit.

1, Do either of the Caution labels affect this? I can't read them.
2. Is the green wire an EGC or a thermostat wire? Not clear on whether individual control wires in same space as 120V wires need to respect Chapter 3 color code.
3. Have you run Class 2 wiring in the same conduit as power wiring at the entry point? That may also be a problem. There may be a reason for the three entry knockouts.

I would be asking the GC what standard he is applying to say that is unacceptable. If "because I say so" is in the code I have missed it for years.

Everybody knows that the only electrical knockouts that aren't for the termination of a wiring method are those found in an RTU, come on man!
