Wiring methods between ATS and elevator - Optional Standby generator

I just got my Schindler pre-inspection check list on my first elevator install. I was originally directed to free-air the conductors between the ATS to the elevator controller, but Schindler is saying that for emergency back-up generators it is required to be installed in conduit. The engineer didn't specify anything either.
Although this isn't technically an emergency generator, rather optional standby...I feel like the intent is the same: protect the conductors as much as possible to the elevator.

Can someone confirm this for me? If it matters, I'm located in Iowa. I don't have an ASME book to look into this myself. Thanks

What do you mean by "free air the conductors"? Conductors cannot be run in free air outside of enclosures.

If an Elevator is required to have standby power per the IBC 2702.2.2, it is Article 701 power, not 702.

701.10 allows it to cohabitate with general wiring.
Got it. Thanks for the correction and insight.

For the sake of semantics, fair enough. Sorry I used the wrong there, but the real question has been answered. Thanks
