Question relates to wiring methods for a packaged, outdoor spa with underwater light. I am aware the wiring method requires pipe or conduit outside the house, but, is it required all the away back to the service panel when the panel is located inside the house or is any Chapter 3 wiring method allowed once inside the house? Am I right in thinking that, because of the underwater light, the conductors, including the grounding conductor, must be in pipe or conduit all the way to the service? Does wet or dry niche luminaires make a difference? Thanks everyone, you have always been helpful in the past.

John, take a look at 680.42(C) Interior Wiring to Outdoor Installations. Any of the wiring methods recognized in Chapter-3 that contain a copper equipment grounding conductor not smaller than #12 shall be permitted for connection to the motor, heating and control loads. The light must meet the requirements of either 680.23 or 680-33.

The section that states if the pool has a light it must be pipe into the panel. That section is for a branch circuit for the underwater light. You are wiring a spa, not a branch circuit for the light. So for that reason you do not have to pipe back to the panel unless the manufacture directions tell you to.
