if you're talking about romex...it's best to stay along side joists or through bored holes.I like too keep romex run parrallel with framing members.And also keep the romex as flat as possible, adherred to the structure.There are certain areas that enforce methods accordingly.If you are piping in a job it's far more important to study the layout procedure before you begin.
