Re: Wiring the switch

I guess I should ask if you mean a white colored wire or a "neutral" as in a grounded circuit conductor? If the latter then NO. you are not allowed to switch a neutral conductor that is the grounded circuit conductor. 404.2(B)

Re: Wiring the switch

Actually thinking back i seen this same type of arrangement on a 34 foot pace arrow motor home we owned. They did it so you could only run front or rear AC on shore power 30 amp 120 volts.Yes i found away to beat them at there game.Probably was't legal but it worked just great

Re: Wiring the switch

Jim those previous post's are very old. :D
But I have used a three-way as a SPDT switch once in a stage setup to turn one half of a 4 lamp florescent fixture on when the band set's up. Flip the switch the other way and when the house clean up lights come on so will all of this fixture. the one ballast hot was on the common one traveler terminal was fed with a hot from the same circuit and the other traveler was connected to the switched leg from the house lights.

Another time was when I had a two speed exhaust fan. I used a combo stacked 3-way and single pole device the single pole would turn off power to the motor and the 3-way would change the speed.

Wayne, I wasn't going to say anything further in this thread until now, but I have done this a number of times, namely in restaurants. :)
