Not many.

But the truth is you have not provided enough info.

What type of insulation?

What type of conduit?

Is it a nipple or an entire raceway?

What is the application?

I agree with iwire. However if it is not NEC related you can install as many as will fit into the conduit.

Nods... I'm With Iwire! Not enough information. Too many variables can change the answer. Can't safely assume or guess anything when doing these calculations.

Can it ever really be more than one?

Even a 6/2 is pretty fat. You could probably physically stuff two of them in a short straight piece using wire lube.

You certainly can't get more than one 6/3

I would assume that there are some 6/3 (UF?) that wouldn't fit at all.

I am guessing he is refering to single conductor 6awg still the jacket composition determines what is acceptable.:-? Also the raceway is still in question as well. Pretty sure that emt and rigid have a different number of conductors allowed.

That being said he did say "cables" so I'm not sure what he was asking for sure.
