Hello Everyone

I am looking for a little insight into what type of preparation I will need to pass the Wisconsin Master Exam.
Actually, specific info. on exam prep would be most helpful and most appreciated.

I am a union inside wireman with most of my experience in residential work.

I have an "A" license out of Illinois and want to exapand my work to wisconsin.

Thanks in advance

You may not need to take the Wisconsin master exam, since there is no statewide licensing. I have a Minnesota master license, and that was good enough to get me a local master license in one city in Wisconsin. You might want to check with the AHJs where you plan on working and see if your Illinois license will let you get local licenses.

I'm from Chicago, and I took it about ten years ago for grins. It wasn't that hard. A couple of questions threw me, like the grounding for cattle barns and a few on trailer parks. Just remember you only get a raw code book, it can be tabbed, but no notes. Good Luck.

I took the WI masters test in March. You could bring in a wheelbarrow of material if you wanted. Notes, handbooks, whatever. No laptops, programable calculators or cell phones.

The test wasn't too difficult if you properly prepare. There were several questions requiring calculations, ie range, trailer park, box fill, motor ocp from what I can remember. There was very little from Com 16. Most questions are quite straight forward right from the NEC. I was given some great advice from people on this board and I'll pass it on to you. When the test begins, read through the entire test first and rate each question according to difficulty. I just put numbers in the margins next to the questions using 1 for the easy ones , 2 for the so-so ones and 3 for the difficult ones. Then go back and answer all the 1's first and so on. That way, you have a better chance of getting the maximum points for the time alloted. Don't spend too much time on the ones you can't get within 4 minutes or so. You have an average of 4.8 minutes per question so that is why you want to focus on the ones you know first. Best of luck......
