I am on vacation in KY.At an indoor flea market in E town i could not believe a fire marshall has not closed them down.Coming out of the suspended ceiling in several locations is MC hanging down to about 6 feet with handy box and outlets. Some have even came out of the fittings.Others have 4 squares with a few inches of 2x4 still on them.At another i seen cords with duct tape over them ran across floor.

A couple of weeks ago, I was at the pool in a "gym". I looked across the room, and there, sitting about 5' from the pool was one of those Audio/Visual carts like you see in schools. It was on wheels, with a TV strapped to the top, and probably a 25' extension cord on the side.

Kids were going around it as they made their way around the pool, and I was afraid one of them would push it into the pool (although I couldn't tell if it was plugged in).

I can't believe how careless people can be with electricity.

People are careless with just about everything, especially in a society where they know all they have to do is sue somebody for their own stupidity and they'll make out. That's where all the real stupidity comes from. They don't have to think, just get hurt and blame somebody else, and if you can't blame somebody else, just blame the person that made the item that injured you. And as with anything else also since it has electricity going to it and nobody understands it but it is usually the fault (so they think) it must of been the electrician that had something to do with it.

If I am using a grounded power tool in my car, I've broken off the grounding pin, it's plugged into a cord that I plugged into a non-GFCI receptacle with a 3-to-2-wire adapter with the ground not connected to anything, I drop the tool onto a cup of too-hot coffee that I perched between my legs, and I get burned and shocked, can I sue McDonalds?

By the way, the coffee is home-made. Does that matter?

I know the lawsuits are all too crazy.

But in the cases Larry and I mentioned, the people being careless (or just plain stupid) aren't the ones that are going to get hurt. That's what bothers me.

I would venture a guess that most time the people are not stupid just unaware of the danger.

Yes most people know that 'water & electricity don't mix' but they really do not know when they are creating a dangerous situation.

Still scary when you see it.

You proved your crazy by buying mcdonalds coffee unless you were using it to degrease the engine.Sue your wife if she made the coffee. And sue home depot for selling you that cord.

I was standing on a busy corner in the middle of Tokyo just last year and could reach up and touch a live buss in what appeared to be their version of a service cabinet . Fascinating electric work on the other side of the world! The Japanese don’t believe in conduit i thinks. The entire city looks like the wiring harness underneath the hood of my Subaru! The bulk of the power is distributed above ground. I’ve never seen so much exposed wire in my life! For those of you who have been to Tokyo you’ll know what I mean.
The service drops in the rural sections outside the city are hilarious! Looks like 10 wire. If you got a 30 Amp box you’re livin’ large hahaha. I give them an A for neatness tho!
Interesting enough, they use the same exact receptacles we do although nowhere could I find any that support grounding pins.
There is a ground conductor but you must first remove the plate cover to form a bond (took me a while to figure out how to remove those damn plates... no screws lol)

My daughter studied in Spain this past semester of college. She took trips to several different countries while based in Spain. During each trip, she took pictures of the wiring in each of these countries.
Now, that is good upbringing!!! ;)

I was thinking the same thing....what a great daughter.:)

I can only imagine her conversation with her friends while she was taking these pictures.;)

There for my Dad....

A while back, i had a gentleman ask me to install a receptacle in his shower (GFI of course). It was to replace the 3way extension cords he had running around the bathtub...He was worried about safety...(LOL)..Oh, it was for his TV....needless to say, i left..
