OK, the first two are given, but how many of you have ancient tools that you consider precious. For example, I have had a pair of Klein electrician's pliers for 50 years now. No rust, no dents or scratches, good as new. I have other tools that have been in accidents so to speak. Would I part with any of these, Hell no! They are heirlooms! I plan to take them to the nursing home with me, and they will have to pry my cold, dead hands off them!

But if neither of its parts is the original, is it still the "same axe"? :D

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

I just pulled out of my desk a slide rule (i.e., engineer?s tool) that I have had for 33 years. Does that count?

{p.s. Yes, I still know how to use it. But I?m a bit rusty on using the abacus. :D }

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

Any one else notice that if they drop a Stanley screw driver someone hands it to you but lose a Kline and its gone forever

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

I've had a Pocket-Knife for over 40 years now. I have seen it only once in the last 20, but if I found it again I wouldn't part with it.

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

I have a off set pair of Klein dikes (side cutters) That I lost back in 1977 in a attic, we had to do some upgrades to that house about a year ago and I was up in the attic pulling home runs across to the service. I didn't even think about that I ever worked on this house But as I was getting to where these run were to go down the wall to the panel I saw them and just thought someone else lost his pair. after getting down from the attic I was showing them to a fellow worker what I found up there and as he was looking at them he said your name is on them. I said what! I grabbed them and sure enough it was a old pair that I don't even remember loosing but my name was right there like I use to put on all my tools. I didn't remember even working on this house at first but as I wondered around It started to come back to me. I did some circuit additions back then. But to find a tool that I had lost was amazing. I'm forever loosing tools.

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

I still have my original Klein linemans, not sure how many replacement grips I've been through on them. If I still have them when I retire from the field those suckers are getting nickel plated.

But yeah, you could say I'm a little fond of all my Kleins.

(only a couple more hours and that thing is finally done)

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

A few weeks ago I worked on a machine that is going assemble a new line of wire cutters Klein is making to compete in the consumer market. Should be at HD in a few months.

Other favorites are a Greenlee tap and die set and some Indestro and Lectrolyte wrenches from 1942. Belonged to my late brother.

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

I stopped buying anything made by Green-Lee. The last two tools of theirs I bought (at Home Depot)failed immediately. :(

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

On the other hand I like both Riobe (if I spelled that right) and DeWalt cordless tools. It's hard to justify the cost difference!

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

Physis, I think the Greenlee stuff made 60 years ago was better. Now I have had more than one tool from Monkey Wards break on me. An axe and a nut driver.

Other favorite brands are Utica, Kraeter, Crescent, Diamond-Shapleigh, Plomb, and those old fashioned Porter-Cable power tools.

Re: Women, Wine, and Favorite Tools:

I like to say that they used to build it 100% over. Now the make it 10% under. That's an old saying of mine, it might need to be updated to maybe 25 or 30% under.

Seriously I wonder if you could make a little money from Klein?
