Service Call. HO says after bathroom remodel,GFCI outlet is dead also outside receptacle. Here is what I found.

The two black wires came out of the wire nut when I pulled receptacle out. It gets better!

Old style GFCI with leads. Hot wire in box spliced to ground wire. Both hot wires,(line and load) spliced together to hot wire going to outside receptacle. white wire came out of wire nut too. EGC in box not connected to anything. Found out that whoever put up drywall removed receptacle then replaced it after sheetrock was up.

how did that ever fit in that box

You don't worry about the box size, you just use your foot, or whatever heavy object you can force it in with, they said I needed a GFCI there no one said anything about it having to work.

Looks more like they rocked AROUND it.

There are only 2 or 3 cables in there.

Why do homeowners leave 3" of sheath and only 2" of wire to work with?

Why don't they comprehend tightening the wirenuts?

When I see those type of wirenuts, I KNOW the homeowner/handyman did it.

I'd say that's a matter of opinion.

Plus, it looks like UF in the upper left... not fun to strip when you don't have to.
You'd be amazed at how well these strippers work on UF.

The box is set too far back so that gave the box more room.

Article 101. See exception 3, the overfill clause. I use it all the time in when I'm in a pinch.

Guess we should just stare at it...

That sounds like a plan!

I don't do resi, so no romex for me anyway.

I spend my days using my unlisted conduit reamer (kleins) , and unlisted locknut banger (screw driver)!:D
