1) None for must unenergized work.
2) class 0 or 00 electrical rubber gloves with covers (usually goatskin) for 240VAC energized.

I've always worn good, tight fitting leather gloves. Usually the softer deer skin type.

Well since I was doing hot work with out the proper permits or any other PPE, I would kind of consider that question moot.

Done hundreds of services with no gloves, so I would think that any kind of protection is better than none.

Now if we're just talking about work gloves, I want something I can feel through not some big old bulky thing that is likely to cause me to drop a tool.

For everyday use I like the "safegrip" latex gloves. You gotta get the ones with the increased thickness. You can get them from Grainger. I don't usually work on energized panels but I would probably use leather in that case.

We use salisbury HV gloves with goat skin leather covers for the best dexterity

For other general work we use deerskin roper gloves from WATSON
