I'm a small one man electrical business that's been operating for about a year and a half. Between referrals from realtors and Nextdoor I was staying plenty busy but the phone has stopped ringing the last month and a half. The commercial company I used to work at was often slow in February but was curious what you guys have been using to generate leads these days. Nextdoor provided me so many leads I havent even setup a facebook or website yet, because I was getting so much work from nextdoor and realtors. Obviously the realtor referrals started slowing down this autumn.

More baskets for your eggs. I have 1 insurance damage contractor, 1 new construction contractor, and service work with 4 different ways of advertising. That doesn't necessarily work where you're at but going with just realtors and 1 method of marketing isn't as safe as using other methods. Maybe reach out and you can get partnered with an HVAC company who's needing an electrician for mini splits or plumber who needs water heaters wired up or something like that.

When home sales slow fown, remodeling goes up. I get the bulk of my work from a mid-sized remodeling company which does almost everything in-house except hvac, plumbing and electrical. They provide about 85% of my work.

Before them, I had 2 other mid-sized remodeling contractors who at various times would provide 70-75% of my work.

The remainder is/has been mostly filled in with smaller companies or single remodelers who follow a similar sub plan. Very little work done for end users.

For me, the benefit is that I can know I have work out in front of me and I can react better. As soon as a contract gets signed by said remodeler(s), I get a call, text, email...something...telling me that sometime in the next 2-4 weeks I'll have a kitchen, bathroom or basement to wire.

Then I have those finishes out in front after the rough-in is done.

Currently on my books - working on a large whole house finish now. Late in this next week a small basement to rough in. The following week will be more at this large finish, and a kitchen to rough in. Then a finish (trim out) on a basement. That takes me almost to the end of March. In May or June I'll have another large whole house finish (rough in completed 2 weeks ago).

This has been really good for me

How does your Google business profile look? That is where I get most of my business from, people in my area searching for Electrician and I come up high. To give it a boost, send an email to all your past customers telling them that you’re working on your online profile and ask if they could leave a review.

My guess is most residential is going to crash for the next year. Service will still happen but will be very competitive and people will do without or go with the bare minimum for now. And contractors will be racing for the bottom more than ever. New homes, additions, and remodels will continue for folks who don’t need loans and are flush with cash.

I noticed a slow down on for Next-door also. But it wasn't a bad review or anything like that. so I am not all worried about it.

I actually never signed up. One customer just gave me a great review without asking me if I wanted her to do it. For a while I was getting way more calls than I wanted to get, I am not really all geared up to do service calls but I try to fit em in when I can..........
