If your were asked to price work on the side. ONLY PRICE the work and it was someone you knew pretty well And it was going to take you somewhere between 40-50 hrs to estimate and the job was $2-3M Which method of payment would you favor ?

1. Don’t charge for pricing it but ask him to throw in 1/2% or something close to that on top of the price and if they hit it you get that money.
2. Whatever your fee is(30,40,50 etc. dollars hour) to estimate it plus a small bonus if they hit it..say $1k or something close.
3. Whatever your fee is and that it.

Obviously the person who your pricing for would have to be on the same page .

Is this person you know pretty well a competitor of your current employee?

I wouldnt bother with side work (let alone a 2m job) until i had a really good grasp on electrical work as a whole...

I would want to be paid by the hour. $100/hour sounds like a fair price.

get a good lawyer to write the contract to protect yourself.

you will probably need e+o and liability insurance as well.
