Work Space Requirements for A/C Disconnect

This debate has come up here a few times in the past. Some feel if it contains an overcurrent device it must meet 110.26 requirements, some feel it must meet meet 110.26 whether it has overcurrent devices or not, and there are some that feel 110.26 doesn't apply at all.

I always ask how to comply with 110.26 for a disconnect mounted above a suspended ceiling for HVAC equipment that is also located above the ceiling?

It usually comes down to how your AHJ decides to interpret this section.

FWIW I believe that the A/C unit disconnecting means requires working space in accordance with 110.26(A) regardless of whether or not there are overcurrent devices located within the disconnect.

I do also except when they're mounted above a hung ceiling, then anything goes. :happyyes:
