I was looking at a job today and the MDP was the first thing inside the ellectrical room when you open the door.
I walked in closed the door and was reading a lower bucket disconnect name plate when the door opened into my back.
120/208 panel.
Do door opening change any footage clearances for working space.
That doors coming off before I set foot in there again.

Lock for the door or maybe change to hinge the door to swing out of the room.

Even if the door swings away from you in that situation someone may still scare the hell out of you if they open it when not expected.

I been startled many times when I though I was alone and concentrating on a task and someone suddenly gets my attention in some way.

The last part of 110.26 states :

"Distances shall be measured from the exposed live parts or from the enclosure or opening if the live parts are enclosed."

And I will assume based on how you describe the door and it's swing that 110.26(C)(3) did not apply to that installation...

(3) Personnel Doors. Where equipment rated 800 A or
more that contains overcurrent devices, switching devices,
or control devices is installed and there is a personnel
door(s) intended for entrance to and egress from the working
space less than 7.6 m (25 ft) from the nearest edge of
the working space, the door(s) shall open in the direction of
egress and be equipped with listed panic hardware.

However I am not sure I would dead bolt it......would hate for the "unexpected" event to happen while you are working in the room and then not be able to get out safely.

I would consider a nice, well colored, clearly displayed sign on the door than a dead bolt, to each his own I guess.

Although i i did not know what you stated. Now that i think about it doors usually do swing outward in these situations.
The same as open warehouses that have hand rail guards around the panels.

I responded to the request of the OP. The question was if the door swing plays any role in the clearance, so posted the last line of the NEC that addresses that. The additional information is making assumptions on the original post based on the expressed door swing without knowing any deals about the equipment within the electrical room.

Thats why you re the Master.
I was just agreeing with you.

That would be Master OF the NEC and that aint me...;)...we all strive to Master it and I like others fall grossly short on many occasions. However, I am clearly NOT a GURU of these things by any stretch of the word.:p
