I am working on a quote for a customer, which will require a 500 Amp ATS, 1 480 V 500 Amp 3phase 4 wire panel, a transformer, and a 208 v 100 amp 3phase 4 wire panel. This will be installed in a mechanical room that currently does not have any wall space available. The room currently has 1 480 V 1600 amp 3phase 4 wire switch gear, sump pumps, and sub-panels feed from the switch gear. I am trying to verify the clearances for clear aisle for the front of the switch gear and requirements for egress. I am considering building a rack to support the new items from c channel, in between all the other equipment in the room.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It sound like you have a lot of equipment going in the room. Read 110.26 carefully and if you have further questions you may want to check with your local AHJ.

Does the switch gear have a meter in it?

The power companies require a larger working clearance than 110.26.Give them a call before you make a final decision.
