Working Depth

For the working space requirements in 110.26, any ideas why the section that allows equipment to protrude 6" into the work space is in the Working Space Height section and not the Working Space Depth section??

I figure that the 6'-6" requirements for height is just that, for height. It would make more sense to a have 6" protrusion allowance, in the depth section, because this is referring to 6" depth. Thoughts?

Not sure I'm understanding the question. If on a wall you had a 12" wireway and a 6" deep panel mounted above the wireway that 6" encroachment of the wireway into the working space for the panel would be permitted.

Thanks infinity. I understand the requirements but I'm questioning why this requirement is located in the working space height section 110.26(A)(3) and not in the working space depth section 110.26(A)(1). Since we're talking about protrusion allowed to extend 6", we're talking about depth. Why is this in the height section and not the depth section?

The width would be from left to right in front of the panel so that doesn't really fit either. What you're really asking is why this 6" rule doesn't fall under the depth of the working space. Got it.

Yea, I was asking about depth (not width).

Funny you are mentioning that though because I kept confusing width and depth in my head but I made sure to write depth in the questioning.

Because while the equipment is protruding along its depth, the conflict is with working space height, not depth.

Suppose the working space height section just said that the working space extended from the elevation of the bottom of the panel to the elevation of the top of the panel. Then equipment above or below the panel could protrude any amount without causing a violation.

So it's the working space height section that say the working space extends into the region taken up by the protruding equipment.
