We follow NEC 2008 and we are currently debating if NEC 110.26 Space about Electrical Equipment applies to variable air volume terminal units (hot water type no fan).
Some have argues that this is not an electrical equipment.
I say it is since it has an internal 110V/24V transformer and a servo motor controller board.
We are discussing what to do about having grounded parts (conduit, water lines, sprinkler lines) in front, side of below the access panel that exposes the 110 and 24V.
Some are installed in between 24" on center bar joists.
The manufacturer documentation does not provide NEC guidance other than meet the NEC code.
This unit will require examination for adjusting settings and performing a live dead live check for lock out and tagout.
Is a VAV terminal unit as described above an electrical equipment?
Does the VAV terminal unit require the minimum 3 feet working clearances of table 110.26(A)(1)?
Does the VAV terminal unit require the 30" side to side clearance?
Does the VAV terminal unit require no obstructions (specifically grounded parts below it?
Thank you in advance.
