Due to constraint space, we have only 3" left between top of a recessed 2x4 light fixture housing and bottom of hvac duct above.

Will this be enough space to run flexible or cable through and make connection at top of light fixture? Thanks!

Can those be used for NM cable?

From UL 2008 White Book:
RELATED PRODUCTS
Connectors covered under Armored Cable Connectors (AWSX), Conduit
Fittings (DWTT) and Power and Control Tray Cable Connectors (QPOZ) are
also suitable for use with nonmetallic-sheathed cable when specifically indicated
on the device or carton.
I don't have a box here, so I don't know.
Can't find anything in the NEC requiring listing for connectors for NM cable, but of course 110.3(B) . . .

Can we just terminate flex / cable to light fixture without using connector or elbow?

Can we run the cable through light fixture housing directly and make the wiring connection inside without using connector? I think we only use connector when we run hard pipe conduit? Correct me if I am wrong.

They now make lay in fixtures that are 1 1/4 inch high. The ones we use have T5 lamps. Space them out farther, they are bright. We use them here, nobody knows how to run anything up high, now everything is almost on the ceiling.
