I would like to know what problems I might run into, bimetallic corrosion or dissimilar metal reaction, if I were to use this screw type to mount a Lug to the Neutral bar of a panel.



I have had a hard time finding this type /size screw.

Any additional help will be greatly appreciated.

What brand of panel are you using.Most probably all make an add a lug that is used on the neutral bar for larger wire than the opening will accept.

I've been to a few Supply Houses in my area and I've asked for a lug kit, I have mentioned the panel type/brand, and I'm always shown this;

From a chemistry/physics standpoint, likely none.

Dissimilar metal / bimetalic corrosion requires a liquid electolyte to carry the ions. (While the metal itself carries the electrons in the opposite direction)

As long as the properly enclosed mounting location remains dry, you shouldn't have a problem in this regard.

As to any potential code "illegalities" ... I'll leave that to other posters here.

I think Siemens and Sq D both make a lug like that, only instead of a "box with a circle in it" to mount it, it has a forked end designed to use two spaces in the neutral bar. Be persistent, walk behind the counter with the bozo and help him find it. :)
 
That's a grade 8 screw (meaning it's really hard and strong).
I can't imagine any problems using it to mount a lug on a aluminum buss, other than overtightening will remove the threads in the aluminum really fast.

SQ D homeline panels even come with one in the box.I`ve seen them for QO`s also and i believe CH has them as well.
 
Siemens does make one, too. I had to buy one several months ago when I discovered someone at the supply house slipped me a panelboard that didn't come with one already installed, unlike every other Siemens panelboard I had bought previously.

Yea, you can even get these in DIY-land (i.e., the Big Boxes).

'sounds like you need to research the online catalog for the panel you'e using, and walk into your supply house with the part #. 'works for me in situations like this.
