If you have a transformer between two panels is it a code violation to connect the flex( 3' max??) to the panel? I think it's always transitioned over with a coupling to hard conduit or tubing. Thanks

As Augie stated there is no maximum length. I see guys transition purely for aesthetic reasons or if there is a limit in the spec.

If it's within 3' FMC only, more than that EMT with a tradition to FMC.
I agree. There is no limit other than job specs. Usually I do this to limit the amount of flex for aesthetics or job specs. If its really close I see absolutely no benefit to transitioning other than an LB if needed.
