I'm digging a trench to run XHHW-2 1/0 wire to a pole barn. The location where my LB enters the house is about 18 inches from the knock out on the main panel where I need to pull the wire into the main panel. I'd prefer to not run conduit inside the wall because it adds two more 90 in the conduit run. Once the LB enters the wall can I just run the wire in the wall without conduit to the main panel? For my case it would be about 18 inches or so. Is this ok according to code?

This is a topic already under discussion here: http://www.mikeholt.com/code_forum/showthread.php?t=81034

I am hiring a licencsed Electrician to do the installation but I was going to rent a trencher and dig the trench for the conduit to save some money. My Electrician has not returned my call and I want to get the trench dug. I'm trying to ensure I dig the trench in the correct location for the conduit installation.

Will someone please explain to me how an LB is typically connected to the main panel?

I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks
