In medical outpatient clinic have 40A single phase xray machine. The disconnect of this xray is provided by EPO which is connected to shun trip.

Is shunt trip allowed as disco for xray? I looked at 517.72 but not sure what constitutes disconnecting means. Looked at definition of disconnecting means 100 but still not sure

What do you mean by the disconnect of the Xray is provided by Emergency Power Off which is connected to shunt trip?

Generally the disconnect for an Xray machine is a local shunt trip enclosed circuit breaker controlled by an EPO switch.

I mean I have a 40A branch circuit breaker to xray that has shunt trip and the EPO is at the xray controls. Can the EPO serve as disconnecting means for the xray or not as required by NEC 2017 section 517?

What is it that you are calling the shunt trip at the Xray? Is it a service disconnect for the Xray machine such as an enclosed circuit breaker? or something else?

IMO, the wording of 517.72 requires a disconnect that actually disconnects the power at the x-ray.
