Mathematical modeling in the 70's predicted a new type of electrical component. We all know about capacitors, resistors and inductors, but they figured out there should be something called a memristor. Recently they finally stumbled on how to make it, confirming its existance. Now the race is on to figure out how to meld it with capacitors, etc, giving us several more new components. Imagine the things we'll figure out how to build, now that our Leggo set is (or will be soon) finally complete...
