I'm getting this second hand so I don't have all the details.

Had someone who installs Z-Wave light switches for home automation give me a call. He said his Leviton or Jasco Z-wave switches are tripping the arc fault breaker as soon as power is turned on. He did not say what brand the breakers are.

Is is possible these are combination ground fault and arc fault breakers and the ground fault side is tripping? I think some of the light switches still use the green wire as a current carrying conductor.

Anyone else heard of problems with Z-Wave or other home automation type switches affecting arc fault breakers?

Thanks.

Most of the Zwave switches I have installed require a neutral. Whoever installed the switches probably used the EGC as the neutral for the switch or grabbed a neutral in the box that is part of a different circuit. Using the EGC or different circuits neutral will cause the GF portion of the AFCI to trip
