Re: Zero Sequence

Zero sequence is a term used in power system analysis. Symmetrical component theory says that you can divide an unbalanced 3 phase system into 3 separate balanced systems and then connect them together in various ways. Analysis of balanced systems is not nearly as difficult as unbalanced systems.
The zero seqence system is often looked at as neutral values, or related to neutral systems, however that is not very accurate.
The three phase system is broken down into positive sequence, negative sequence, and zero sequence components for voltage, for impedance, and for current. Much beyond that gets pretty technical.

Re: Zero Sequence

Good answer. But if I may add a bit to that answer, a zero sequence CT would be used as part of a ground fault detection system. A ground fault would result in an unbalanced condition, and would cause currents to flow in the neutral. The zero sequence CT would detect this condition, and could be configured either to turn on an alarm or to cause a trip.
