We are doing on a job a Fuel Distribution Site ( diesel & mogas) The above ground tanks Mfgr. says that the tanks must be grounded with zinc ground rods. ( We haven't got an answer on the GEC) What is the reason for zinc instead of copper?

Are the zinc electrodes allowed to supplant copper electrodes? Seems like the GES would be separate from cathodic protection.

I agree. If the rods are part of cathodic protection they may need to be more then just zinc coated.

The GES electrodes you wouldn't want to intentionally have something that will degrade easily, but for sacrificial electrodes you would.
