My boss had me looking for this answer back before I had the internet to help. He thought it was 100' but I never found anything to back that up. Guess this turned out to be a cold case I can close.

I could run a 400' vertical riser with 500 mcm, 4" rigid conduit, without a junction box, and be code compliant (it depends what material you use, job specs aside) ;)

I suggest that you look at 300.19 and Table 300.19(A) Spacings for Conductor Supports.

Your boss raised a red flag that you should look at. Perhaps he is not best person to be working for being he asked you to find it rather than himself. Had he told you it is code and directed to the number that would get him respect. Now knowing he was wrong will you believe him on anything else ?
