NEC 310.6 applies only to solid conductors?

NEC 310.6 reads: ?Solid dielectric insulated conductors operated above 2000 volts in permanent installations shall have ozone-resistant insulation and shall be shielded. All metallic insulation shields shall be grounded through an effective grounding path meeting the requirements of 250.4(A)(5) or 250.4(B)(4). Shielding shall be for the purpose of confining the voltage stresses to the insulation.?

Does the wording allow for unshielded STRANDED conductors to be operated above 2000 Volts?

I believe "solid" refers to the dielectric insulation, not the conductors.

I read that as Solid dielectric insulated conductors, not ?dielectric insulated Solid conductors", which doesn't make sense. Would be more accurate to write solid-dielectric (with the dash).

Agreed. Table 310.13(E) goes up to 2000 kcmil. A solid 2000 kcmil conductor would be one tough bugger to work with!

Agreed. American English has strayed away from hyphenating descriptive clauses used as an adjective.
