We have existing building supplied by adjacent generator room. Now there is a plan for a new extension of the existing building. We think to upgrade the existing generators to be sufficient for the existing & the new buildings. We have two options to route the new emergency feeders to the new building:
1- Run the new feeders through the existing service tunnel passing through the existing building.
2- Run the new feeders outside building (where the client has concerns regarding the excavation works that could disturb the emergency gate at the existing building since it is a hospital building).
From above it seems the option one is the most likely here.

Would option-1 be a violation as 230.3?

Yes, where the feeder reach the building at the disconnecting means, isn't the service conductor?
Ok, i will backup, the 230.3 says the service conductor feeding a separate building or structure shall not passing through the interior of another building or structure.
Where, the service building is the one which coming from the utility not the separately derived system, so there is no issue of runing the feeders from the GEN room to the new building passing through the existing building.

Thanks.
