Another point the OP may need to consider is motor cooling. Most of the VFDs we did were on centrifugal loads, pumps and fans, where the turn down was typically not more than 30% with correspondingly lower losses. Shaft driven cooling fans
Some were on paper machines which were constant torque and could be on crawl for quite long periods so we fitted separately driven fans to provide cooling at all speeds.
