3 phase in residential?

POCO says they will provide it, so i guess they're going to go for it...

so i guess somebody owes me a burrito...

Sounds like he got lucky. Will they be charging him for it ? Be carefull that you don't get in bind over who runs the service wires if underground.

We have a few 208/120 Y services on very large homes here, one is about 44k sf the other is about 32k sf but both have allot of 3/phase air units, well pumps, irrigation wells, and one even has a 3/phase gated entry, and pool pumps for the totally underground pool and hot tub.
Our POCO will not even give you a 4-wire delta (wild-leg) anymore, 208/120 is the norm, or a grounded "B" delta

I've read here about SF houses with high-leg 3-phase to run the A/C, but never run into one. Where were they common?
One of my friends grew up in a house that had a red #10 wire from the pole, in addition to the usual three wires, which powered only the AC compressor. It went through the meter, into a 3p disconnect, and to the AC unit. It never entered the house.
