where do you group your(six or less) service disconnects? This sounds like they are located in each apartment.

They would be in each occupancy nearest the point of entrance of the sevice conductors. This would not work well in most appartment applicaitons unless you could install the panel on an outside wall, but is common in single story mulitple occupancy buidlings where the service conductors are run from the meters either along the outside wall to each occupancy or under the slab to each occupancy.

I may be misinterpreting what is stated here regarding the Chicago Electrical Code (which I do not have a copy of), but I interpret this as either prohibiting an outside disconnect or requiring that there also be an inside disconnect:

Took me awhile to find it, and if it had not been mentioned in passing on an unrelated thread here I would never have suspected. Could not find that thread again, so had to hit the Internet.
