Air Circuit Breaker

Looking at a specification that states:

"Perform each visual and mechanical inspection and electrical test for low-voltage air circuit breakers stated in NETA ATS, Paragraph 7.6 Circuit Breakers."

I'm not sure what an "air circuit breaker" is. This specification is for a small office building, it does have shunt trip breakers but the maximum breaker size is 400 amps. Is this a common name for 'normal' breakers or is this something else entirely. I'm not turning up a lot online searching for this.

Thanks

I think they mean a non-molded case breaker, like the big draw out devices you find in heavy industry. The contacts and springs of these breakers are usually easy to see when the equipment doors are open.

ACBs (Air Circuit Breakers) are pretty much a relic of the past now, almost everyone has gone to Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCBs).
But yeah, ACBs and even VCBs are typically going to START at 2000A frames, maybe 1600A in some brands. So if you don't have any ACBs in the facility, you don't need to do that test.
