Al is OK for services & ckts down to about a #6, maybe #8. I've seen lots of trouble with #10 and 12. They are a size up from the cu we could use, and have to be crammed more to pack in the box. AL is more fragile and I've seen it break in the bends or kinks. Sometimes found more than 1 break in a box, or breaks in several in a row. It expands/contracts more than cu, comes loose quicker. If pigtailing, you have to use wirenuts the size of your finger to pigtail cu. (and lots of debates on doing it). If my house had al, I'd rip it out and redo.
