It seems that all of the infrared sauna units I have explored warn against nuisance tripping when plugged into a CGFI. manufacturer's comments are not to use CGFI but to plug directly into a not protected outlet usually rated as a 120V 15, or 20A outlet.
Where I live code requires CGFI in bathrooms, and consequently this presents a problem. What is the NEC position on these plug and play appliances?
thanks you

If the location requires GFCI protection then there is no exception. The manufacturer has to get on the wagon.

As Roger said, the manufacturer will need to address current leakage to o prevent GFCI tripping. There is a liability if a user connects to a non GFCI outlet and gets injured or killed.
Is the product UL listed? Or perhaps the UL standard is out of date.
