Well, OK, but that and similar language is often used to imply that if something is deigned to be not possible by the majority of people, that in and of itself is proof positive that it is possible. It's pretzel logic.

I had that LP.

How many of you have your name on a US patent?
Are you an inventor?

What is an invention? How is one invention distinguished from another?

Have you worked for an inventor?
Do you believe you were part of the idea generation of an invention? And not included as a coinventor?

Do you believe someone stole your idea? If so what does that mean?

Have you worked on the development of an invention, but did not contribute ideas to the invention?
Have you worked on the preparation of a patent application?

Have you studied patents to determine whether they may read on your work?

The great Selden Ford patent trial should never gone on trial because Selden's patent did not read on a Ford car. The difference being the Selden engine was a 2 cycle engine, and Ford's was a 4 cycle.

None of these directly mention the 2 cycle vs 4 cycle difference.

I believe many persons are inventors, but do not pursue their inventiveness.

No I did discuss with my friend about building a linear tracking turntable, with a magnetic or optical reading head that could read an appropriate disk, after we hit a bump in the road and the 8 track skipped back in 1974; he tells people I invented the CD.
I had a few "poor man patents " in my firesafe until my house was robbed.

sameguy:

You bring up some interesting points.

Prior art. A rough time for the invention of the floppy disk is 1967, for the optical disk (CD) is 1984, but really much earlier.

Optical disk ---

Floppy disk ---

To get a US patent you need more than an idea. The idea needs to work. In the early days a working model was required as part of the application. What you claim in the Claims section can not read on prior art. In other words it has to be new and not obvious to one skilled in the art. My attitude on the not obvious part is --- if the invention is of reasonable importance, then if it was obvious it would already be in the prior art.

The Dick Tracey phone of the 1940s was an idea, but at that time not patentable. The technology in 1940 did not exist to perform the function, but I would think that the idea was prior art. Thus, to get a patent later on a cordless phone would require something more than that it was cordless.

Isn't this interweb thing great, it would have taken forever to glean just part of the information at our fingertips today.
