I also attended one of the seminars put on by Leviton for the several types of charging stations now being marketed and installed. I agree with several of the previous contributors that these may not end up being in sevice for a long period, but agree on the necessity to have alternate forms of stored fuel (in this case batteries and electrons) to offset the volitility in the oil market. This volitility won't soon get any better and I expect it to get worse. That said it's a new market and if we (EC) don't participate then the GC's and a host of others will be glad to step in.
p.s. each of the respective battery packs has a KW capacity, the different charging station types just allow faster charging to achieve a "full" battery. This will affect the existing electrical distribution system capacity also as many commercial stations will be providing power all day long, not just at night.
