New to solar/batteries: Victron shunt came with control wires that have an integral fuse holder. Batteries were already in place - 12.8v LifePO4 (4S4P), and needed equalizers. Equalizers came with no fuse; they have a large ring terminal at the end of what looks like 18-gauge (give or take) wire. The units handle up to ten amps. One solar person said "the wire will blow...." Should these not be fused as well?

If you are referring to the Victron battery balancer, the manual suggests an inline fuse:
4) Use at least 0,75 mm² to wire the negative, positive and midpoint connections (in this order). Additionally, if in your application it is needed to comply with UL, also fuse these wires near the batteries with a 10A fuse suitable for DC current (e.g. Littelfuse ATOF series automotive blade fuse in combination with an inline fuse holder).
