Thanks for the help. The Leviton 1463 works on both ends as does the Pass-Seymour TM873. For both the indicator is on when the controlled lamp is off. Both indicators will be off if the controlled lamp is on, burned out or missing.
Leviton also makes a switch (I forgot the number) in which the indicator is on when the lamp is on, but as far as I know it only works on the load end of the string.
