Not a problem you have to locate the GFCI in the panel or somewhere else accessible.It will be interesting to see how this rule works out under the 2011 NEC where the GFCI has to be readily accessible.
not sure as far as the national code but chicago code, any receptacle for an appliance that is fixed and not accessible does not get a gfci. The chicago code doesn't vary much from the national
