We are always getting calls from customers after the phone company has visited. Many times the phone tech will simply disconnect the security wiring at the Demarc.
We get the call when the system does its weekly test and fails. We go out and find the line simply disconnected.
Especially a problem now with VoIP and FiOS. The customer makes the deal with either the cable company or phone company and disconnects the POTS line. They have no idea that in order to reach the central station that we must reconnect the phone line.
Most of the time it requires a snap card to the system to allow it to communicate over the Ethernet line.
We also offer a cell back up as an alternative.
